meet the veterinarians, veterinary technicians and staff of the bird & pet clinic of roseville
dr. victoria joseph, founder and co-owner
Born and raised in California, Dr. Joseph received her DVM degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1983. She attained her board certification in Avian Medicine and Surgery in 1995.
Dr. Joseph is board certified in avian medicine and surgery and has 20+ years of experience in treating birds of prey, more than any other veterinarian in Roseville or Placer County. Not only does she attend to the needs of the birds of prey that are brought into our animal clinic, she also works at Idexx Veterinary Laboratories as an avian consultant for other veterinarians, and oversees the medical needs of the raptors arriving at the California Foundation for Birds of Prey, a non-profit organization that cares for injured raptors.
Dr. Joseph and her husband, Andy, share their home with 3 dogs, a parrot, and many raptors. Her favorite hobbies are bird watching and fly-fishing.
dr. gary forney, co-owner
Dr. Forney is a life-long California native who received his DVM degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis in 1983. After graduating he practiced veterinary medicine for 12 years in Modesto. In 1995 he moved to Roseville and joined Dr. Joseph as partner and co-owner of The Bird & Pet Clinic.
Dr. Forney’s professional interests include small animal medicine and soft tissue surgery.
Outside of the clinic he enjoys snow skiing, bicycling and traveling with his family. Dr. Forney and his wife, Carol, have two daughters, Colleen and Janna, their dog Hoppy, Bearded Dragon Atilla and Charlie the rat.
dr. corinne popke
Dr. Corinne Popke graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 1995 and has been working at the Bird and Pet Clinic since 1997.
The Popkes’ have a large number of pets, ranging from stick bugs to Harris hawks. Dr. Popke has accumulated these pets from a multitude of rescue efforts over the years. Her husband and three children are very adept at helping to care for all the animals.
In her spare time Dr. Popke enjoys spending time with her family. She is also an active falconer, having flown her Harris' hawk for the past 17 years.
dr. amy stewart
Dr. Stewart was born, raised, and educated in California. She has an Animal Science degree from UC Davis. She graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 2003 and shortly thereafter joined the Bird & Pet Clinic of Roseville.
After graduation Dr. Stewart researched poultry. She is currently pursuing certification for the ABVP avian board. In addition to treating exotic pets, at work, she also enjoys treating and rehabilitating raptors, especially barn owls, for the California Foundation for Birds of Prey.
At home, Dr. Stewart has a school of quiet fish, a flock of singing finches, a pair of cooing doves, and a Maximillion Pionus. She also has dogs, cats, rodents, and tarantulas. She enjoys riding and regularly takes her dogs to the barn to romp around with her horses.
dr. omar cabrera
Cabrera, from the Latin root Capra, means “keeper of goats,”so it is no surprise that Dr. Cabrera pursued veterinary medicine as his profession.
Born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Cabrera earned a Bachelor’s degree in Genetics from UC Davis in 2004 and graduated from UC Davis school of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.
Dr. Cabrera’s professional interests include small animal medicine, avian endoscopy and avian orthopedic surgery. He plans to achieve an ABVP Avian Board Certification and becoming a licensed falconer.
Dr. Cabrera and his wife, Tilly, have two dogs, Bella and Chloe, and two red eared sliders, Frodo and Sam. In his spare time Dr. Cabrera enjoys gardening, fishing, and traveling.
veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants
At the Bird & Pet Clinic we employ both Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT) and Veterinary Assistants who are in training for their licenses.
All Veterinary Assistants are required to participate and fulfill a specific training program designed by the Bird & Pet Clinic. It takes an average of six months of training to properly handle exotic species. When they are finished with training, our technical staff is experienced in restraint, treatment, anesthesia and diagnostic testing of exotic pets as well as our canine and feline friends.
